Iftar with Mom at Fika

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Since the day I got married, the time spent with my mom fell drastically.
Truth is, she was trying to cope very hard without me as I was always her merayap buddy everyday.

Today, we have dedicated days which we get to spend time and I try to make sure that I make full use of it.
Some days, the Lil' Sister will join us if she knocks off from work early. Other times, dad will join us if he is in town. It usually happens when the husband is out having other appointments or if he is off giving tuition.

When the husband is free, that is the time we get to spend together.

Weekends need a good balance of both sides of the family and husband. Sometimes it is really hard to be fair but life is all about give and take.

The days where I get to spend time alone with mom are the days where I will bring her some place nice to eat. A place relativey quiet and we are served. I know my mom enjoys them though she always complains that I am paying most of the time.

A couple of days back, we happened to be around Arab Street so I suggested that we headed to Fika to try out the salmon, her favourite dish.
Few months back, the husband and I were personally invited by the owner of Fika for dinner and we enjoyed everything there.

The ambience coupled with the quality of the food was simply marvelous.

During the month of Ramadhan, we were lavishly served with dates.
I am not a date fan but their dates are very nice and I have to admit that I finished all of them!

Mom and I ordered grilled salmon. This time around I asked for medium done and I must say.. it is perfect!

I am a potato fan and they are lusciously done to perfection.

This time around I topped it up with brownies too, only to share it with mom

It was an evening just the two of us, quiet night with heart-to-heart talks and gossips. A lot of stories we share, whether it is the troubled things in my life, my work, the joy of Her Closet I have everyday, the baby that is coming (previously we talked a lot about the wedding plans).

It was great company.

Thank you Mom for the date.
