When I read about an article mentioning that Reader's Digest ranked Singapore 30th out of 35 Asian countries in terms of courtesy, it didnt baffle me.
It is so obvious that our country is really lacking of the courtesy culture.
But the reason why I am blogging this up is because I became more aware of the society today.
I may be able to pull out so many bad-mannered incidences which i see it with my own eyes.
I am neither going to mention their names nor their races.
Incident #1:
I was standing at the lift lobby waiting for the lift to head to work.
Yes, this happens at work.
Obviously, that hour is the time where people kept streaming in.
Non-stop.
The lift lobby's going to be so full and there will be some of us crowding around the lift.
The kiasu ones that is.
There are also many thoughtful ones who stand quite a distance away from the lift to allow movement of the traffic.
What truly bewildered me was that this particular collegue of mine(as much as i am ashamed to mention this though she is someone whom i do not fancy) rushed into the lift the minute the lift door opens.
Yes.. she was the first one to get into the lift
And if there is no one in the lift i think i would be pretty fine about it except to probably think that she is SUPER KIASU.
But no.
There was someone coming out of the lift.
And the think is that that idiot who rushed in didnt apologise.
Neither did she smile apologetically.
She just headed for the buttons and told her friend to quickly come in.
What the heck?
Incident #2:
Whenever i enter lifts and i happen to stand near the door, i would always ask those entering, which floors do they want to go to.
Most people would go something like,"Level 4"
There was NO 'PLEASE'.
And after i pressed their floor, there was NO 'THANK YOU'.
I will just get so pissed.
Then i moved on.
Entering the lift, pressing the floor number that i need to go to and then head to the back of the lift.
And the rest would do the same too.
Basket!
In the end i would still have to open and close doors for them
Them i shall not be...
Incident #3:
I was in Taka with mom and we going into the lift.
Okay another lift story.
No doubt that the lift was quite full, it would seriously be able to occupy another 2 people, that is me and my mom IF the people would have moved further in.
Well.. knowing me, i nudged my mom in and i followed suit.
There was this guy who just pressed door to close when i was going in.
And since i entered back first, my feet was almost closed by the door lift.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he underestimated my entrance time.
That was the first time.
I had to exit the lift and then enter again cos there were people alighting first
Then came the second time
I was dead furious boy.
Well.. he should know that not all minah tudungs are such an introvert and that they cant think for themselves
And that also doesnt mean that they are bimbos or simply have no brains...
Look idiot, i bet you weren't sent to school.
So when the third time came, though the lift was still quite packed, i turned to him and just snapped.
Ok initially i thought i would not snap cos my mom was with me and i had to give her the necessary respect.
But i just didnt want to be pushed any further.
"Excuse me, what the hell is wrong with you?"
I think he was stunned that i mentioned that. His wife glared at me.
My mom just gave me that look and she replied in the lift,"Intan why are you like that?"
Wah!
I think that even got me more furious
So i said loudly,"No i just want to know what exactly is his point in to shut the lift door at me"
And the couple left at the next floor.
It was also mentioned that Singapore ranked better when it comes to sales.
Of course la!
The economy so bad. People have to live off their commissions.
Great service... yes.
But seriously they are also like the many out there.
No exceptions.
Incident #4:
Mom and another lady saw an empty table.
Apparently mom managed to get to the table first.
Guess what this lady did?
She stood there, stared my mom straight in the face while holding up her tray.
She was expecting my mom to give up the TABLE for her.
Biyatch!
And i think my mom was gracious enough to say,"You can have two seats"
But she didnt accept them
She walked away giving a look to my mom.
Ouh boy.. that got my mom pissed.
Which i could understand.
That lady was wearing a 'Dior' T-shirt like the many Dior salesgirls do.
And imagine if it was us who walked to the counter.
Wah! I bet they are so nice.
Asking us to meet like $160 sales so we can get the free gifts.
Idiots!
I never can quite have a rapport with branded salesgirls anyway
Cos its never class to be the one selling in a branded shop
And it is seriously not classy if you work in a Gucci store and carry a Gucci bag cos you get staff price which is in total about 45% off the price tag.
A Gucci or Dior or Coach or Louis Vuitton doesn't mention the amount i have in my bank.
Neither in yours.
Bottom line:
I dun fancy that people don't smile back when we smile.
Goodness, who the hell do they think they are.
I dun fancy people who is trying so hard to be nice to you.
Cos they needn't buy me any favours and neither will i be obligated to.
I dun fancy people who is full of arrogance.
Expect the doors to be held for them and NO 'THANK YOU' was mentioned.
Expect things to be done for them as an obligation.
They can screw themselves up.
Don't talk about how well we fare in the service sector.
Cos we probably do it well.
What else can the country offer besides people and service?
Yes.
Singaporeans lacks courtesy.
And they would always say that courtesy starts with YOU
Can we throw away that slogan please?
Cos it is not working
Cos nobody's going to start it anyway.
Cos everybody takes things for granted that it is obligatory that things are done for them.
At the end of the day people who tried would get tired.
I got tired
And they going to be like them
I am going to be like them.
Why?
Cos when you cant beat 'em, join 'em
And i am going to be just like them.....
if you step on my toes
